Writing Process

State Sample of the Writing Test & Method for Scoring http://sde.state.ok.us/AcctAssess/pdf/Core/PSTG/GPSTWritingGr5.pdf

You need to practice at home and in class because we need all the practice we can get!

Every week students will write a composition on an assigned topic. Your writing will be scored on how fully you develop the topic and on how well you organize and express your ideas.  As you work, keep in mind these three stages of the writing process:

Monday 1. Planning: Take time to plan your writing by listing, outlining, or using a graphic organizer to organize your ideas. 15 minutes

Tuesday 2. Writing: Write about the topic in a clear and logical manner on lined paper.   You do not need to use everything on your planning page, but make sure your composition is as complete as possible.  Be sure to include a beginning, a middle, and an ending for your composition. —We are not doing this part…we are strictly working on the MIDDLE. 30 minutes

Wednesday 3. Editing/Revising: Take time to reread what you have written and decide if you need to add more details or change the organization of your composition. At the same time, look for and correct any errors in grammar, punctuation, capitalization, and spelling.  You need to use the Writer’s Checklist to help you revise your writing.  Remember Penmanhip always MATTERS! 15 minutes

Most students will be able to complete the writing task within about 60 minutes, but you may take additional time, if needed.  Make sure you take the time to edit and revise your composition. Your score will be based on your writing composition and the planning page. Please turn all pages in Friday morning.

By the way—-these instruction are almost IDENTICAL to those on the WRITING test in February.

CRT Test is in February

 Are you ready?

We need all the practice we can muster before that day.  So everyone is expected to complete the writing homework.   We are also writing in class everyday to ensure that we are ready for this test.

Papers that do not meet certain criteria cannot be scored.  This means that a ZERO or an “Unscorable” is given to papers that fall into the following categories:

• No response or just a restatement of the task

• Response in a language other than English (Including; LOL, IDK and j/k)

• Response that is illegible or incomprehensible (Penmanship Matters)

• Response about a topic different from the assigned task
